More on HPHP is now a household name and has the proud title of largest technology company in the world. They operate in almost every country and have annual revenues of over $110 billion. The company is actually called “The Hewlett-Packard Company” however with modern culture and branding people commonly referred to them as HP. HP specializes in developing and manufacturing computing, storage, and networking hardware, software and services and their major product lines include personal computing devices, enterprise servers, related storage devices, as well as a diverse range of printers and other imaging products. They also have a hand in other product lines (In fact HP started out in these areas), including electronic test equipment and systems, medical electronic equipment, solid state components and instrumentation for chemical analysis. HP sells its products to both households and businesses via online distribution, consumer-electronics and office-supply retailers, software partners and major technology vendors. HP originally started with Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard who both graduated in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 1935. They started from a garage in Palo Alto and were helped by a previous professor from university called Frederick Terman. Their partnership was formalized in 1939 with an original investment of $538 and interestingly the name came from a coin toss to decide whether the company they founded would be called Hewlett-Packard or Packard-Hewlett. We can see who won the toss and it makes you wonder if they imagined that their names would become so well know in the computers and electronics market. |
